“Another One” by indie rock’s class clown king, Mac DeMarco was released this summer on August 7th. The mini-LP includes eight songs, mainly about the different stages of love. They range from unrequited love, to losing your soul mate. DeMarco shows the stages of love, just in eight songs.
The album starts off with the song “The Way You’d Love Her”. Lyrically it is about having a crush on someone and not being able to do anything about it. This one heavily relies on the pop-rock equation of a catchy chorus and relatable premise. It’s is a standard DeMarco guitar song, along with some easy on the ears percussion.
The second song is the albums namesake “Another One”. Mhw increase sticky and cluster dmg. This is one of the albums slow, melancholy, piano ballads. This song is about someone knocking on the door to steal your lover. This song is sung from the perspective of the “other man” in a sort of love triangle. DeMarco pulls out the Elton John style piano essence on this one.
Mac DeMarco is a goofball. It’s been said a lot about him. His onstage antics are nonsensical. His personality is zany. But man, he can make some beautiful sounding songs. And nowhere is that more clear than on his soon to be released mini-LP Another One. 2014’s Salad Days was a breezy and hypnotic foray into the workings of Mac’s mind. Mac DeMarco never forgets to draw together the various demos, snippets and embryos of his songs. First published for Record Store Day 2016, Another (Demo) One brings together 16 more or less completed tracks, some of which appear on his album Another One in definitive versions. It is above all a document destined for hardcore fans of this extraterrestrial in the American indie scene. Another One by Mac DeMarco, released 07 August 2015 1. The Way You'd Love Her 2. No Other Heart 4. Just To Put Me Down 5. A Heart Like Hers 6. I've Been Waiting For Her 7. My House By The Water In 2015, the talent for creating a prolific output of exceptional music is almost a curse. Press people will tell you that there’s a bottleneck of too many artists covered. Another One doesn't do that. But I think that if it did, it would disrupt the flow. This is an album that doesn't need those incredible transcendental moments to be great. The element in Mac Demarco's music that makes it so great is that you can always tell he's having a good time.
Song three is called “No Other Heart”. This one is about finding someone great, but realizing they love someone else. Super mario 74 download mac. They love another person and “no other heart will do.”
Track four is about a lover who is hot and cold. This song is quite simple and doesn’t even include a bridge, so it is pure chorus repeating pop. Finale notepad 2012 mac download.
The B-side starts off with “A Heart Like Hers”, and it is inevitably about the breakup phase of the relationship. The lyrics point to the woman breaking the man’s heart, and how he is trying to bottle up his emotions. His heart and all his love for her is “locked inside a cage… no longer there to bother her.” Of course, just as much as the rest of the album, DeMarco is giving relatable lyrics.
Track six is “I’ve Been Waiting For Her”. It is one of the simpler, power-pop type songs of the album. It is simply about finding love. This song is just pure fun and affection.

Song seven is called “Without Me”, and it is another breakup song. This one much gentler, and thoughtful about the persons now ex-lover. The person in this song, is sad about their love leaving, but they want them to be happy regardless. The melody itself is both hopeful and gloomy at the same time.
The last track “My House By The Water” is an instrumental that Mac created using his synthesizer, and noises he recorded from the bay near his New York home. It has the sounds of the water splashing against the shore. You can also hear the airplanes from the nearby airport. At the end of the song he invites fans to his home.
“6802 Bayfield Ave, Arverne, New York. Stop on by, I’ll make you a cup of coffee. See you later” said DeMarco at the end of the song.
DeMarco adds something fun and personal at the end of his albums, this one is by far the most personal, inviting fans to his real home.
Overall the album is definitely a transitional work for Mac. Along with his summer BBQ soundtrack “Some Other One’s” you can tell that he is trying out new sounds to keep his work fresh and exciting. He has started using the piano much more. He hasn’t lost his sound however, and all of his music is still the funky, fun, music that fans love.
As a transitional piece it has a new sound to it, but keeps what fans love about his music. A great album overall.
